ARTIST'S STATEMENT
Painting is a process, a journey. Abstraction is an open ended journey with no set time for arrival.
Many things in life demand convergence, correctness, certainty, definitiveness; and to be sure, there is a place for following a certain path, arriving at a certain place, and making a certain decision. However, there is also a place for freedom, discovery, and openness. Here enters divergence; the path less trodden; the beat of a different drummer; choices unique to each of us; thinking outside the box; abstraction.
Abstraction is a divergent rather than convergent process. It is an invitation to possibility, expression, and spontaneity; it is a song, a dance, not yet written or choreographed that must be given voice and movement.
CURRENT WORK
My current work is a building up of the canvass; an assemblage of protrusions, light refractions, and shadows; it is spontaneous, edgy, roughly hewn, and raw; multiple elements including water, glass, paper, wood, wire, and paint are collaged onto canvas to create evocative, stirring, weighted, moody, and mood lifting results. From textured applications, swaths of colour, and other collaged materials, are borne new objects, stories, meditations.
